Latest update from Mozambique!

STORMS ............ RAIN ............ and more storms! Just spoke on the phone to Dwight in Mozambique and this is their report on the current situation on the base:

"It rained 69 mm and turned that bad patch into something that resembled a river bed!
On Monday it was all hands on deck as our staff worked flat out to dig ditches to redirect the continual water flow down the road. We resorted to laying heavy boards along the tire tracks so at least our pick up could make it out, but the truck was simply too heavy. It got stuck just trying to haul the wood and broken bricks to help fill huge eroded gaps in the road. It was one dirty, smelly mess let me tell you! Please pray for the situation on the base as our local Mozambicans are also suffering in the process with many diseases, failed crops and other problems.

Leave a legacy this Christmas and for 2008!

May this Christmas be a life changing time with family and friends. May you all enjoy a great time of "coinonia" with all - even if it means giving up one plate of food to those who will be hungry this Christmas. Thank you all for caring and changing lives in Mozambique in your full schedules and the many demands from so many places. MERRY CHRISTMAS - we love you dearly.

May 2008 be a time where you will keep on leaving a legacy in Mozambique and in the lives of so many children and people in this great African country. On behalf of everyone in Mozambique have a great 2008 and may your "wildest" dreams come true.

2007 A bumper year for teachers

Our schools had a bumper year in 2007. From left to right: Joao Feniassi (he teaches grade 2 and 4); Francois Rauch (he tries to teach the teachers); Paulo Inacio (he teaches grade 1 and 5) and Tito Mabuleza (grade 3).

We have had an overall passing rate of 92 % in our bush schools this year. What makes this remarkable is that government schools are struggling to reach an 80 % pass rate. Although we had several problems this year:

  • We had to teach under the trees, come rain and sunshine, as the current school were being upgraded;
  • Lack of books and stationary;
  • No school desks and other teaching aids available.

The teachers stuck through it though and during our external grade 5 exams our kids excelled and scored a 88 % passing rate - the highest in the area. Mathew Hurekure on the photo left is our Bible Education and character development teacher and plays a huge role in the success of our school. As you know we are starting our new school early 2008 so watch for the latest news.

We had our year farewell for the teachers as they are taking a well deserved break until the new school year starts on 2 January for them.

If GOD has called you to lead ..... then please LEAD!

We were privileged again to have all our monitors and leaders with us again in December for their intensive training seminar. New monitors attended the seminar for the first time. It was amazing to teach the pastors again.
I had the privilege of teaching from the book of Revelation ..... and while I was teaching one pastor raised his hand and asked me to stop. He was weeping!

I was busy teaching on the plagues that would hit the earth after God blew the trumpet to collect his beloved during the judgement. He was weeping he said "because my heart hurts for the lost and those who do not have the knowledge to know what is coming." "We have to be God's Kingdom NOW on earth for all who are still seeking and looking!" Do I need to say more! The leaders also received a lot of material to evangelize their areas. Here is some of the photos to enjoy!!

Sooooooo sorry for the silence!

They say silence is golden .......... but not for us deep in the bushes in Mozambique. Sorry for the empty blog the last few weeks. Let me quickly update you what happened:

                          • Our satellite system gave up with no parts to fix it - although we took it to Zimbabwe - no luck. Mr. Robert Mugabe do not have any spares. At an inflation rate of 7 000 % who can blame the guy.
                                Our generator literally blew into pieces. No spares ..... no electricity .... hard times.

                                      • My personal generator gave up because we tried to pump some water. We do wash ourselves here in the bush you know. Well .... at least the females does!!!

                                      • The water well decided to pump air and not water - I think it ran dry ..... but I am not going to climb down the well 50 m down! Did I mention that we like to wash ourselves here in the bush?

                                      • We had a leadership seminar with 40 people and a youth group of another 59 screaming young Mozambicans with little or no water on the base.
                            Well that should paint the picture. No blogging was possible, no emails and cut off. Oh did I mention we had some outrageous storms in Mozambique on the base. 200 mm in one night and so it went on and on.
                            So thank you for understanding, your support, prayers, humour and BEING THERE. Keep on visiting this page .... much more to follow!
